BEDDING
Pressure ulcers are caused by prolonged pressure on an area of the skin.
PREVENTION
- Systematic monitoring, at least three times a day, of the patient’s skin, paying special attention to protruding parts of the body.
- Keeping the skin dry and clean.
- Change position every 2 hours using all positions (supine, right side, left side).
- Use of special alternating pressure mattresses.
- Sheets should be kept dry and taut.
- Use of a catheter for incontinence.
- Apply a thin layer of moisturizing lotion once a day.
- In addition, emphasis should be placed on nutrition, which should be full of vitamins, trace elements and nutrients, such as proteins.
Decubitus ulcers and treatment
- Therapies for bedsores depend on the severity of the condition.
- Frequent position changes so that all areas of the skin are properly ventilated and are not subjected to prolonged pressure.
- Maintaining normal skin moisture
- Application of special dressings for faster and more effective healing of the area.
- Use of special foam layers or dynamic air layers that regularly change the pressures on the person who is in a prone position.
- A diet rich in vitamins, trace elements and nutrients, such as proteins.
